Changes to the Student CPA Program

Changes to the Student CPA Program!

Beginning in 2027, the current CPA certification program will evolve to the new CPA Professional Program. These changes are designed to strengthen the profession for the future as we adapt to an evolving business environment.

It will blend essential technical excellence in accounting and a strong foundation in ethics with critical thinking, professional judgement, real-world experience and future-focused skills. Along the way, students will build a foundation of practical experience to ensure they’re equipped to lead, solve, and make an impact from day one.

How This Impacts Current Students

  • Students pursuing the CPA designation are encouraged to maintain their momentum and stay committed to their path.
  • Most will have time to meet current education and experience requirements before the program ends in December 2028.
  • For those who don’t finish by then, transition details were provided: completed PEP modules, exams, and CPA Ontario-approved experience may count toward exemptions and credits in the upcoming CPA Professional Program.
  • The current CPA certification remains highly relevant, equipping candidates with essential skills and knowledge for success in the profession.
